Dr Andrea Jean Baker

I am an award-winning journalism scholar and journalist whose interdisciplinary research spans feminist journalism studies, criminology, ethnomusicology, and urban studies. My work interrogates the global dynamics of violence against women, urban communication, and the safety of journalists in an age increasingly shaped by Artificial Intelligence. In April 2025, I became the first Australian journalism scholar to complete the highly selective Human-Centred Artificial Intelligence certificate from Stanford University, a global leader in AI research and innovation. This accomplishment, earned through months of rigorous online study, reinforces my standing as a leading Australian scholar in the critical intersection of AI, journalism ethics, and social justice.
